Story

From the Sidelines

Sporting events are remembered by scorelines. Great sporting events are remembered by atmosphere.

The AMG7s Festival announced itself early, it was clear this was far more than a collection of rugby, hockey, and football fixtures. It was a community in motion.

Players, coaches, parents, officials, volunteers, and spectators all moving with a shared understanding of where they needed to be and what they had come to celebrate.

Across one compact venue, the action never stopped. Four rugby matches, two football games, and two hockey fixtures unfolded simultaneously, each only a short walk from the next. Wherever you turned, there was another contest reaching a decisive moment, another crowd gathering along a touchline, another burst of applause after a piece of skill.

The festival moved with precision. At regular intervals, a loud bell rang across the grounds, signalling the end of one round and the start of the next. Players, coaches, and supporters were already moving to new fields before the echo faded. A simple system, run without fuss.

The people made the day.

Parents lined the fields from first whistle to last, following their children from one match to another. Students cheered with equal enthusiasm whether their own team was on the field or not. Moments of exceptional play were applauded regardless of which school produced them. Competition was fierce. Respect endured.

Every tackle, every sprint, every save, and every goal mattered. Players wore their school colours with conviction. No one coasted.

Away from the pitches, food vendors matched the tournament’s pace. Queues moved quickly. Conversations filled the gaps between games. The energy never dipped, yet the festival never felt chaotic.

Twenty years in, AMG7s has earned its confidence. The organisation is tight. The competition is real. The crowds are large. Yet the day never feels rushed or over-managed. Everything simply works.

I arrived expecting to photograph sport. I left having documented something broader: school spirit, sportsmanship, and the quiet precision that turns a tournament into a tradition.

About and Contact Me

Behind the Story

I enjoy creating content that informs, engages, and strengthens a community. Whether it is photography, video, graphic design, or written communication, my focus is always on producing work that is clear, purposeful, and authentic.

This portfolio was created to demonstrate how I approach communications, from planning and content creation through to editing and publishing. Everything on this website was created by me using content captured during the AMG7s Festival 2026, with all editing, design, and development completed afterwards using a Samsung S22, Adobe Lightroom Mobile, Canva, and WordPress.

While this portfolio focuses on a sporting event, the same approach applies to every aspect of school life. Academic achievement, performing arts, service, leadership, and everyday moments all contribute to the story of a school and deserve to be communicated with care and creativity.

I enjoy learning new skills and constantly refining how stories are told so they connect people with the values and culture of that organisation.
